CANCUN – An American woman has died after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel in the Playa Mujeres area of Cancun.
The accident happened in the early evening hours of Saturday when a 22-year-old female, Sarah Rodriguez, fell to her death from a balcony of the Hotel Villa del Palmar. The woman fell into the garden area near the pool of the hotel where she was seen by on-duty staff.
Emergency 066 received a call of an unconscious woman lying in the green space of the hotel. When paramedics arrived, they found the woman without vital signs. Her travel companion was taken for questioning.
A medical exam revealed the woman died of spinal trauma from the fall.
The Attorney General’s Office said that there will be a thorough investigation to determine whether or not the fall was an accident.
