Third Cancun fugitive recaptured; seven still at large

CANCÚN — A third fugitive among the 10 who escaped from a Cancun prison on July 12 was recaptured on Monday July 25. The other seven remain at large more than two weeks after the jailbreak.

The arrested fugitive was identified by the Ministerial Police as Juan Pablo Morales Lopez.

Morales Lopez was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the ADO bus terminal in Cancun. He is reportedly a member of the ‘Southerners’ gang and was serving a sentence of 16 and a half years, for the crime of rape.

Along with the other fugitives, Morales Lopez jumped a prison fence on July 12, and took a taxi to hide in a brushy area of the delegation Bonfil, then moved to Playa del Carmen, where he remained hidden for 10 days. He said that on Monday he traveled to Cancun in order to find a friend, but was stopped when arriving at the bus terminal.
