Responsible companies must integrate environmental management in their business model

Two researchers from the the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) Texcoco campus, Aura Álvarez Nieto and Selene Álvarez Nieto, have researched the impact that businesses can have on sustainability. They recently published a study named: “Promoting sustainability in new businesses.”

They claim excessive production and consumption in the commercial sector, among other factors, contribute to environmental degradation.

The researchers said that the study focuses on the commitment that businesses should have to preserve the environment. Responsible businesses, they said, integrate environmental management in their business model, in order to eliminate or minimize negative impacts on the environment and facilitate positive ones.

They said that it is important to encourage sustainable practices in society, and that the main goal of their work is to influence new companies. They hope that new businesses will commit to environmental responsibility, which include analyzing their production practices and the environmental damages they can provoke.

As a result, the two researchers will hold workshops and information sessions on business social and environmental responsibility.

They will also use the businesses in the Business Incubator at the UAEM Texcoco campus as case studies. They will work with the businesses to impart the importance of environmental responsibility and its benefits, such as improving competitiveness.
