CANCUN — Two heatstroke deaths have been reported in the state of Quintana Roo.
Most of the state has seen very high temperatures so far this year. Thermometers average between 32 C and 40 C degrees each day (89 to 104 F), which is a concern for those at high risk. Quintana Roo is located in the second warmest part of the country and officials are warning people to take care being as there is at least four more weeks of the hot season left.
The two deaths were recorded by the Directorate General of Epidemiology, Federal Ministry of Health. They said that these particular deaths were the result of people’s body temperatures rising above 40 C (104 F). This level of temperature causes imbalances in various body functions and in these instances, resulted in death.
Doctors around the state say they have recorded heatstroke as a frequent issue among patients. Health authorities say that hospitals are seeing many people arriving with heat-related problems ranging from dehydration to gastrointestinal diseases
So far this summer, the state of Sonora has recorded three heatstroke deaths.
