

The Office of the Attorney General of the State (PGJE) confirmed the death of Mayor of San Juan Chamula, Domingo López González, and government administrator, Narciso Lunes Hernández.
According to initial reports, on Saturday July 23, around 7:00 am, a group of people from 35 surrounding towns arrived to the main plaza in the municipality of Los Altos de Chiapas, in order to talk to the authorities.
The protesters were exposing various disagreements and demanding resources for public works when unidentified men opened fire.
The shooting also left at least seven wounded who were taken to the San Cristobal de las Casas hospital.
The Special Prosecutor for Indigenous Justice carries out the investigations to arrest those responsible for the attack.

Later on, around 4 pm, Juan Carlos Gomez Aranda, Chiapas Government Secretary reported that the death toll went up to five.
At a press conference, the Secretary announced that the victims are the mayor of San Juan Chamula, Domingo Lopez Gonzalez; Government administrator, Narciso Lunes Hernández; Councilman Miguel Lopez Gomez; City Hall driver, Ernesto Perez Perez and Silvano Hernández Diaz, civilian.
The number of wounded went up to twelve, and they are reported stable at the San Cristobal de las Casas hospital.
