Mérida will have new National School of Higher Education

The educational offer in Yucatan will expand and strengthen with the construction of the National School of Higher Education (Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores: ENES), affiliated to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

The project will be built n a property located in the East side of Merida, by the Merida-Tizimin highway.

For the construction of this new facility, UNAM’s rector Enrique Graue Wiechers, announced a 400 to 500 million pesos investment, reason why Governor Rolando Zapata Bello handed out the documents supporting the donation of this state owned land.

The school will start construction during the second semester of this year, and will offer the following majors:

  1. Coastal Zone Sustainable Management.
  2. Intercultural Development and Management.
  3. Environmental Sciences and Earth Sciences.

The donation ceremony took place at the History Hall of the Government Palace, in front of researchers, academics, and officials, all related to the education sector.

At the end of the ceremony, Governor Rolando Zapata also announced that, from Sunday June 26 to Saturday July 2nd, the Tenth international Maya Experts Congress (X Congreso Internacional de Mayistas), will be held in Izamal.
