On Saturday May 28, the State Government submitted to the local Congress a draft amendment to the Law of Transportation to integrate the use of mobile platforms that provide private transportation services.
Unanimously, leaders of the commerce chambers, academics of Yucatan and representatives of the civil society endorsed and supported the initiative to amend the State Law of Transpotation, previously proposed by the Executive ; passed on to the local Congress last weekend, for its analysis.
In the 32nd special session of the Public Safety State Council, lead by the General Secretary of Government Roberto Rodriguez Asaf, businessmen and representatives of the education sector described the proposal as a success, that should generate healthy competition among service providers that use digital platforms as well as safeguard the physical integrity of the population.
The president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Juan José Abraham Daguer, reassured the changes show the opening of the State Government towards the use of new technologies businesswise.

In turn, the state president of the National Chamber of Industry (Canacintra) Mario Can Marin, welcomed the initiative and stressed out that authorities should establish clear rules.
At the meeting in the premises of the Ministry of Public Security, President of the Mexican Chamber of Hotels in Yucatan (CAMHY), Ricardo Dajer Nahum, said that the initiative recognizes companies that operate without being properly regulated. He also said this is a response of the State Authorities to the new digital economy that brings different business models.
The rector of the San Agustin Mesoamerican University (UMSA), María Eugenia Sansores Ruz, highlighted the opening of the government to support what she called “new type of realities in Yucatan“.
“We have to recognize that a clear and immediate response to this new social reality is urgent. The use of passenger transport service through digital platforms must be available to the public, but under a transparent scheme of controlled regulations”. Sansores Ruz stated.
The aim of the proposal is to establish a record of drivers who provide the transport service through digital platforms, as well as making sure they have the local driver’s license, Yucatan State license plates and a valid local address.
