Specialized Medical Tourism online platform launched by State Government in Yucatán

Medical Tourism is an economic activity that implies the commerce of services and represents the union of at least two sectors: Medical and Tourism.

According to data published in the Pro Mexico (2013) a bulletin on Medical Tourism, Mexico has a great competitive advantage in this industry, being the tenth OECD country with the highest percentage of specialists at international level (63.4% of the Total of general practitioners), higher than the average of the OECD countries (57.7%).

The quality of the health services allowed to attend more than one million foreign patients during 2012, which placed our country in the second place in this sector at the global level.

In addition, medical tourism is expected to grow to a value of 3.514 billion dollars by 2017.

The Secretariats of Tourism Promotion, Economic Development and Health of the state of Yucatan have implemented actions to consolidate this segment, through the integration of service providers in order increase the demand for tourism health services in the state.

Today Mérida is already recognized as the medical capital of southeast Mexico, for its academic institutions in the areas of health, as well as for its public and private hospitals that position the destination as a regional leader.
