With 15,000 new seats and top quality new grass, plus a new access area and a covered bullpen, the Kukulcan Alamo Stadium (Estadio Kukulcán Álamo), home of the Leones de Yucatan, is a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment facility for their Yucatecan fans.
These improvements were made with an investment of 40 million pesos ($2.2 million USD), by the team management and the state government together.
On Saturday April 2nd, Yucatán Governor Rolando Zapata Bello visited the Lions headquarters, that now also feature new locker rooms for players, an automated irrigation system on the field, and 9,600 square meters of parking area, which means 272 new parking spaces and a new lighting sysetm.
Zapata Bello said the investment consolidates this sports arena as one of the best in the country and represents an outstading effort by government and private sector, so the baseball fans of Yucatan can enjoy not only the ball games but other kind of entertainment events as well.

Accompanied by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Leones de Yucatan Baseball Club, Juan Jose Arellano Hernandez, the governor toured the facility that now features new locker rooms, new restrooms for ladies and gentlemen, a new food court and games for children.
Along with the business manager of the club, Mario Ceballos Bojorquez, and the director of the Sports Institute of Yucatan (IDEY), Juan Sosa Puerto, the delegation went into the new covered bullpen, which has batting and pitching cages so pitchers and batters can continue their warm up even in case of a rain delay
It is worth mentioing that the Kukulcan Alamo is the only ball park with this type of covered facilities in the league, which means an advantage to the home team. Besides, the fans will have the opportunity to observe the players warming up, before entering the stands.

Arellano Hernandez said the Leones are proud of their new home, and stated that the Kukulcan Alamo Park is one of the best sports facilities in all of Mexico and a pride for the people of Yucatán.
Rolando Zapata Bello was invited to throw the first pitch at the opening game of the season, on Sunday April 3rd at 7 pm, between Yucatan Lions and Tigers of Quintana Roo (which by the way, the Leones unfortunately lost).
