PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — According to Riviera Maya News, on Wednesday April 13th, an American ex-convict on a Texas warrant roundup list was arrested in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
The man, 41-year-old Avniel Awan Anthony, was on the active warrant list for Abilene, Texas when he was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Playa del Carmen. The arrest of Mr. Anthony was the result of numerous complaints by female beachgoers.
Throughout Wednesday afternoon, local Tourist Police received numerous complaints from female beachgoers who said they were being verbally harassed by a man at the beach. Tourist Police officials confronted the man who was quickly identified as Avniel Anthony from his tattoos on record with the US Consulate.
They also found he went by several aliases including Dominic Wayne Wilson, Edi Amin Dada (on Facebook) and ALmightyG.
According to noticaribe.com Mr. Anthony, who is originally from Charleston, South Carolina, is an ex-convict and is currently wanted in the U.S. for murder, possession of firearm and fraud in the state of Texas.
He was arrested by Mexican authorities and handed over to US officials to be transported back to the United States.
A second man, Christopher Daniels who was with Mr. Anthony at the time of his arrest, was found to have a criminal drug-related record and was also taken into custody
