Young Yucatecan woman flies on presidential jet to Mexico City

A young indigenous woman from Yucatan state flew on the $550 million presidential plane to Mexico City at the invitation of President Enrique Peña Nieto, who gave her a personal tour of the official Los Pinos residence, the Office of the President said.

Fatima Chay Chi told the president about her wish to visit Mexico City during an event staged by the National Commission for the Development of Indian Peoples and the Fundacion Patrimonio Indigena MX, which is headed by Spanish singer Miguel Bose, for the signing of an agreement to provide support to indigenous children and teenagers.

The young woman told the president that she had never been to Mexico City and had never traveled by plane, adding that she wanted to see the presidential residence.

Peña Nieto invited Fatima, who wants to study civil engineering, to return with him to the capital along with her friend, Laigxa Canul, and Cecilio Chi Indian Children’s Home director Leticia Cuevas.

The women were flown by helicopter to the airport in Merida, where they boarded the official presidential jet for the trip to Mexico City.

A helicopter took the president’s guests from the Mexico City airport to Los Pinos, where they were welcomed by first lady Angelica Rivera.

Peña Nieto gave the three women a tour of the residence, showing them different parts of the house.

“Koa,” the pet dog of Paulina Peña Pretelini, the president’s daughter, joined the tour, the Office of the President said.
