CANCUN, Q.Roo —  Investigators are probing circumstances surrouding a Texas woman’s fatal fall from a second story balcony of a rented house on the island of Isla Mujeres.

After the accident Thursday March 24, the injured woman, 32-year-old Destiny Moore of Beaumont, Texas, was rushed to the General Hospital in Cancun. She died at the hospital later the same day, authorities said.

Hospital staff told reporters the woman was rushed to the hospital at approximately 4:00 a.m. Thursday, and she passed away at 10:50 p.m the same day.

According to a police report cited in a media account, the woman had toxic levels of alcohol in her system and failed to stabilize in the hospital. An investigation into the facts leading up to her death is still under way.

Moore was taying in a rented house on Isla Mujeres — an island located off of Cancun’s coast. U.S. Embassy officials confirmed Moore’s death.
“We offer our sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones on their loss,” the embassy said in a statement.

Moore worked at the Texas Bullion Exchange, and is survived by a son.

Family and friends are mourning the death of the Southeast Texas woman.

KFDM News spoke with family members who said they were informed by friends Destiny Moore had fallen off a balcony Thursday night and was in surgery. The family says it received a call two hours later that she had died. So far, they say the only information they’ve received is through a Mexican newspaper and friends.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy sent a statement to KFDM:

“At this point, we can confirm that U.S. citizen Destiny Moore died in Cancun, Mexico. We offer our sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones on their loss. Our consular staff is providing all possible consular assistance. Out of respect for the privacy of the family, we have no further comment.”

The embassy also confirmed they are assisting the Beaumont family in returning the body of their daughter to the United States.

Anande Krishna, Deputy Press Attache for the US Embassy in Mexico, said they are providing assistance to the family.

“We send our condolences out to the family at this very difficult time and are doing everything we can to assist them,” said Krishna.

Investigators in Mexico have told reporters they cannot release any more information as the investigation is ongoing. They would not say whether foul play was suspected.

Moore was described by her friends as fun loving and full of life.

“Destiny was such a beautiful soul that was so full of life and energy and could light up any room,” said Moore’s friend Marissa Gerik.

“You couldn’t have a bad time if Destiny was around. She will be greatly missed by so many friends and family who loved her so much. My heart goes out to her precious son and I pray that he always remembers her as the amazing and spirited person that she was.”

A fall off a balcony at 4 AM and she was intoxicated…. Sounds like she took herself out of the gene pool. Darwin Award for her.

Sounds like a set up to me, or better yet I would definitely be interested in looking into it further. Who else was at the rental house that night besides her? Who called EMS?
