On Tuesday February 16th, a couple from the State of Mexico who went to Cancun to spend their honeymoon was engulfed by tragedy, when they went for a swim in Delfines beach, and the newlywed bride was swept under by a wave and drowned.
The incident took place at 1:10 p.m., approximately, when Itzel N, age 26, and her husband Mario N, 23, went to this beach located at kilometer 19.5 Boulevard Kukulcan.
The young man told the court authorities that he and his late wife came from Toluca, State of Mexico, and were staying at the Antillano hotel, in Cancun.
The man stated that on Tuesday February 16th they went to spend the day on the beach, and arrived around 8:00 am; they spent the whole morning there and a few minutes after twelve noon they decided to go for a swim, but a tide pulled his wife out to sea. Mario ran to seek help from a Civil Protection lifeguard, but when he finally managed to get Itzel out of the water, she had no vital signs.

However, emergency services were requested, an ambulance arrived on the scene, and the paramedics confirmed what the lifeguard had already informed the police force.
Experts from the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPFC) and agents of the State Judicial Police (PJE), also arrived to the scene to officialy confirm the woman’s death.
Ministry officials testified to the facts and ordered the removal of the body, that was transferred to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy.

I was there when this tragedy happened.
surrounded by billions of dollars worth of 5 star hotels and there is no lifeguard on duty, took the paramedics 20 minutes to get there and when they arrived the paramedic took his time, walked to the scene perhaps cause it was to late. It shouldn’t have happened, no life guard?
Cancun is responsible for a large percent of tourist dollars spent in Mexico and there is no lifeguard. Billions spent by visitors around the world and there is no lifeguard? perhaps part of the reason IT TOOK PARAMEDICS so long to arrive is that the cops ride around everywhere they go with the emergency lights flashing all the time so how are you supposed to know if there is an emergency? No one pulls over for cops or ambulance because they are always driving around with their lights flashing, as a result the emergency vehicles are stuck in traffic as nobody pull over.
