Jaime Cadaval, director of the FMTRI, announced that the most important event to be held in the country is the World Championship, which will gather the best competitors and will also have the presence of Rio 2016 Olympic Games medalists.

The World Championship is scheduled from September 12 to 18 in the island of Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

The first international competition to be held is the Ibero-American Championships, which will be held within the Mérida Triathlon on January 31, 2016; followed by the Continental Cup in March in La Paz, Baja California Sur, and it will continue with the World Cup in May in Huatulco.

It is noteworthy that also in May another Continental Cup will take place in Ixtapa, and eventually the World Championship will be held in Cozumel in September.

Cadaval said that the purpose of performing this type of international event in Mexico is to make the triathlon gain more strength in states across Mexico, because many of them offer excellent conditions for competitions of the sort, gathering the world’s most competitive athletes.
