In an exclusive interview with The Yucatan Times, Mr. Marco Almazan, President of International Business Developer Scorpio Enterprises LLC, said the business delegation to Merida he led recently was enticed by an invitation from the head of SEFOE (Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Yucatan) Ernesto Herrera Novelo, to promote the state of Yucatan, its infrastructure and safety.
Scorpio Enterprises is already setting up additional business mission trips every other month to bring potential investors from the USA and around the entire world to our region.

Mr. Almazan declared that, as a Yucatecan, he finds more potential and benefit to the region and the country to bring investment for production, manufacturing and infraestructure that stays in Mexico, provides employment and activates the economy, rather than investing in speculation that could result in the immediate withdrawal of capital.
During the recent visit of the business delegation led by Mr. Almazan, that took place from November 16th to 20th, a strategic schedule was designed for the agenda.
The head of SEFOE, Ernesto Herrera Novelo, and the General Coordinator of Strategic Projects of the Governor’s Office, Juan Carlos García Barcalá, made a presentation of the competitive advantages that our territory has to offer, such as the strategic geographic location that facilitates logistics operations; road, rail and port infrastructure; the Science and Technology Park, as well as development projects in the medium and long term for the State of Yucatán.
The group got to know the local manufacturing industry by touring Air Temp de Mexico, automotive air conditioning manufacturer leader in Southeast Mexico.
The tour was guided by its president and CEO, Mr. Jorge Habib, and the objective was to show the foreign investors that the Yucatan has the capacity and resources for mass production in a clean and safe environment.
Afterwards, the delegation visited the State Police Inteligence Monitoring Unit, where they were greeted by Public Safety Secretary Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda, who was kind enough to allow the group to experience and witness the state-of-the-art technology, ethics and professionalism that positions the state of Yucatan as the safest state in Mexico. This law enforcement infrastructure allows the investors and employees to live and work in the best possible environment with a good quality of life.
Mr. Almazan, who lives abroad, mentioned that he found as a top priority to show the potential investors that Yucatan’s high quality lifestyle is not a coincidence, but the result of investing time, money and effort in becoming the safest state in the country.
The next step was a vist to the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula, led by the State Health Secretary Dr. Jorge Eduardo Mendoza Mézquita. Mr Almazan states he considers it vital to show that the city and the region has top-of-the-line health facilities for the benefit of the people, the investors and their employees.
They continued with a tour of the Port of Progreso, led by Gilda Morlet, Port’s Business Development Manager. There, the potential investors were able to experience the capacity and infrastructure available to properly handle their commodities and cargo. Some of the participants mentioned that they consider the Port of Progreso as a “jewel” that connects the Yucatan with the rest of the world.
Finally, they had the opportunity to witness the production process of the Salt Plant located at Las Coloradas, in the northern part of the state.
Some of the participants mentioned that they find a very smart strategy from the government and the people of the Yucatan, how they are already investing in education, since that will allow to have qualified human resources to take the whole region to the next level.
Mr. Almazan concluded saying that not only we are bringing the world to the Yucatan, but Scorpio Enterprises LLC can provide assistance to firms and enterpreneurs from the Yucatan that are looking to expand their business operations abroad, and that way, take the Yucatan to the world.
