PROGRESO — Canadians and Americans who spend their winter holidays in the beach areas near Chicxulub, Uaymitún, Telchac and Progreso now have a service office where they will have access to telephone and internet services so that they can communicate with family members that are in their home countries.

The office of attention to Canadian and US citizens, which opened Sunday Nov. 1, is at the top of the rectory of the parish of the Powerful Assumption in Chicxulub Puerto, which was blessed Sunday at 10:30 am after the Mass officiated by Pastor Lorenzo Mex Jimenez attended by foreigners already in their vacation homes.

“This is a small but big-hearted space to serve citizens of two great countries such as Canada and the United States who spend their winter holidays on our beaches, who become part of the Chicxulub community for five months,” said Father Lorenzo Mex after the blessing of the room which has a laptop and is decorated with the flags of the Canadian provinces and US.

The service office is headed by Gil Theriacolt who will be present 9 am to 12 noon and 4-6 pm Monday through Saturday, to meet foreign residents who come to communicate with their families through cell phones, laptop or phone.

A blessing was attended by couples Mark and Rosemary Adams and Ross and Eleanor Esrivoke, and Antonio Bueno Guillermo, José Muñoz Bentata, and representatives of the parish community of Chicxulub..

Father Lorenzo Mex highlighted the support the Canadian community brings to the Chicxulub municipal offices and in primary schools such as “Benito Juarez” and “Andrés Quintana Roo”; the garden of the parish dining room, and cleaning the Chicxulub-Uaymitún road.
