US: One student killed, seven wounded in Colorado school shooting Two suspects, both male students, are in custody after shooting at a school near Denver.

CANCUN, Q. Roo — The state attorney’s office revealed that a woman stabbed to death and found Monday Oct. 27 in Villas del Mar neighborhood was 18 years old and her name was Paloma Guadalupe Balam Poot.

In the last three weeks, there have been at least three reported murders of women in Cancun.

Besides the murders of Karen Carrasco and Paloma Balam, on Sunday Oct. 18 the nude body of a woman whose face had been destroyed by blows was found in the Puertas del Mar neighborhood, in Region 251.

The state attorney’s office identified the victim as Rebeca Rivera Neri, 24 years old, a native of Veracruz. According to the autopsy, the victim was strangled to death.

In addition, on Oct. 23, the public notary Jorge Parra, husband of the PRI deputy Marybel Vilegas, was wounded by gunshot in a glass and aluminum factory.

Other robberies and attacks have occurred, including one in Region 220 in which three egg vendors were victims; one man died and two were wounded by gunshot. The attackers robbed the victims of $40,000 pesos.

The same day as this incident, in early morning hours, eight heavily armed and masked men burst into the bar Q Litros in the Plaza Solare in Cancun, with the result of one person wounded.

While Cancun faces this spiral of violence, Gov. Roberto Borge is making trips abroad, according to the weekly newsmagazine Proceso.

On Oct. 30-31, Borge made a trip to Colorado Springs, USA, where he participated in the First Summit of North American Governors.

Borge is now in London where he heads the delegation of Quintana Roo in the World Travel Market, where Mexico is the guest country. His spokesman did not specify how long Borge would remain in London, although the conference concludes Thursday Nov. 5.
