MEXICO CITY– A “major supplier of first level” (or Tier 1) of the automotive industry will announce the establishment of a plant in Yucatan in the coming months.
Although the manufacturer was not named, this important economic news was disclosed Thursday Nov. 26 by Luis Solís Sánchez, executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Industry, after a private meeting with Yucatan Governor Rolando Zapata Bello in Mexico City.
“The governor will not let me say anything, but in the coming months, a Tier 1 (companies that directly provide to auto assembly plants) factory will announce its establishment in the state,” said Solis Sanchez, who said the auto industry looks toward Yucatan, for its “new industrial dynamics.”

Although the governor would not reveal more during this meeting, it emerged that the state administration is in talks with at least three other auto parts supplier firms.
In Yucatan, said the local leader, there already are companies that build radiators, condensers and seats for the automotive industry, but “we are working on attracting other capitals, with means for investment.”

Although he did not specify any names, he said Yucatan is ready to offer “tailored made projects” because they know the specific requirements of the automotive assembly sector and parts manufacturing.
Thursday Zapata Bello met in Mexico City with the members of the Automotive Industry Mexican Association (AMIA) board to “raise its hand” to the automotive industry and present the new economic face of the state that has entered into a process of re-industrialization with a view to generate better jobs.
After the private meeting, the governor explained competitive conditions offered by the state to the country’s industries, and as an example cited the construction of a new industrial park by brewery Grupo Modelo, which will mean an investment of 5,000 million pesos (294 million USD) and in turn generate an entire supply chain.
