Cancun murder wave continues with corpse inside a suitcase

CANCUN, Q. Roo – The wave of murders in Quintana Roo continues with two new cases: a man whose body was found in a suitcase and another in a house.

The suitcase with the victim’s dismembered remains was found on Avenida Torres in Manzana 25, a popular area of Cancun.

The other body of a man with handcuffed wrists was found in a house on Calle Durazno in the irregular colonia, “Los Garcias”.

Both victims’ bodies were found Sunday Nov. 8.

In the last 30 days in Cancun and Playa del Carmen there have been at least four other murders, of women. Saturday, one victim was found stabbed to death in Playa del Carmen, in a neighborhood of rooms for rent. The body of another woman, who died of suffocation and strangulation, was found also on Saturday.

So far in 2015, 13 murders of women have been been reported in Quintana Roo, according to authorities.

In the suitcase incident, according to preliminary information from the Attorney General of Quintana Roo, the body is that of a dark-skinned man, aged between 25 and 30 years, with four tattoos. His identity is still unknown.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bureau of Crimes Against Life, opened the preliminary investigation 6856/2015, to investigate what happened.

In the Calle Durazno murder, a neighbor who knew the victim said he went to his home, found the door ajar, looked in, encountered traces of blood and the handcuffed body of a man identified only as Pedro, who rented a room a month ago.

The state agency opened a preliminary investigation 6858/2015.

In the first 10 months of the year, the intentional homicide reported an upturn of 25.75 percent in Quintana Roo.
