As of December 2, United Airlines will operate the Houston-Merida-Houston route seven days a week, according to the head of the Yucatan Department of Tourism Development, Saul Ancona Salazar.

The U.S. airline modified the schedule of its service to Merida to make it more accessible to the public, and announced that it will promote the tourist destination of Merida in U.S. cities.

The promotion will be done by the airline on social networks and electronic media, in addition to offering seminars on Yucatan to major travel agencies in Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, among other cities.

Ancona met with United’s Director of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean, Millie Uriarte and the Executive Director of Sales for Mexico, Rolf Meyer.

With this agreement, United Airlines will handle the schedule from February 11, 2016; out of Houston at 5:30 pm arriving in Merida at 7:34 pm.

The flight currently has a schedule from Houston at 12:50 pm arriving in Merida at 2:54 pm and returning to Houston at 3:52 pm arriving at 5:52 pm. This schedule will continue in operation until the 10th of February.

The connectivity between these two cities is available also with other carriers, however, this involves an investment of more hours, especially waiting for the stopovers particularly in several Mexican airports, where passengers even have to switch planes. According to the airline chosen by the passenger, you have to make from two to five stopovers.
