The Great Museum of the Mayan World in Merida is the winner of the “Oscar” for the best emerging museum in Latin America.

Winners of the Leading Culture Destinations Awards will be announced at gala event Friday Oct. 10 in London.

Not only will Mexico City be awarded ‘Best Emerging City of Culture’, but Mexico has also scooped the ‘Best Emerging Culture Destination of the Year’ with the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya de Mérida receiving the award as winner for the Central & South American region.

Minister David Najera, Mexico’s Deputy Head of Mission will attend the ceremony and receive the award to Mexico City as the Best Emerging City for Culture.

The Awards, which are taking place in London this evening, recognise the success museums, art organisations and cultural destinations from around the world, which are investing in iconic architecture, cross-sector collaborations, audacious programming, designers shops, Michelin-starred restaurants, late night openings and music performances to diversify the experiences offered to visitors, and establish their global reputations.
