Five months after the execution of Julio Martín Solis Pool, a.k.a “El Canalla”, in the port of Progreso, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors of Yucatan and Campeche announced on Wednesday August 12th, the arrest of 18 members of the criminal organization “Pura Gente Nueva” (“Pure new people”), dedicated to theft and illegal trade of hydrocarbons in three states: Yucatan, Campeche and Tabasco.
At a press conference, the local Public Security Secretary, Luis Felipe Saiden Ojeda explained in detail the operation that took place to catch the suspects, watching their moves through surveillance cameras, and how they worked in conjunction with the Campeche police to bring these criminals to justice.
With these apprehensions, the criminal group was succesfully dismembered in the states of Campeche and Yucatán, although investigations are still in course in the state of Tabasco.
The group stole at least 70,000 liters (18,500 gallons), of fuel from a ship anchored off the coast of Progreso, and “El Canalla” was involved in these and other illegal activities.
