With a cluster of specialists in several health areas and eight certified hospitals, Yucatan will be promoted in the United States and Latin America as a World Class Medical Tourism Destination in Mexico, with an investment of 9 million pesos (US$562,500).
The State Secretary of Tourism Promotion, Saul Ancona, presented the www.yucatanhealthcare.com digital platform that hosts a complete medical directory, including doctors, clinics and hospitals in the state, to attract national and international visitors that require quality healthcare.
“This way, Yucatan becomes an excellent option for the more than seven million people from around the world who travel abroad for health and medical services“. Ancona said.
“The platform features a directory with 47 certified doctors, 8 dental and 11 medical specialized clinics, and a database of 55 doctors in certification process”, he explained.
“The portal displays information in English and Spanish, including a wide variety of lodging options, ranging from hostels to five-star accomodations, boutique hotels and exclusive luxury haciendas“, he noted.
Ancona Salazar emphasized that this website also provides information on “post surgery” services. Rehabilitation facilities in the state where patients can stay to be taken care of during their recovery.
The Secretary announced that a total of nine million pesos will be invested during 2015 in a communication campaign to reach the markets in the United States and Canada.
On the issue the president of the Yucatan Maxillofacial Society, Dr. Roberto Sosa, stressed the high demand for dental services by foreign patients, dental implants being the most requested by senior citizens from the United States and Canada.
Dr. Sosa declared: “For more than ten years, dental clinics in Yucatan have received people from abroad who come for the high quality services we provide, just as good (or even better) than those in their home countries, but obviously, at a lower cost, even including the travel expenses“.
He stressed that people can get high quality dental implants at a cost of approximatelly $ 1,500 dollars, while the same job, using the same material and equipment in the United States, would cost from five to six thousand dollars.
There are 900 dental doctors in the Yucatan certified to serve international patients, some of them are currently receiving people not only from the US, but from as far as England and Italy.
On the other hand, the director of the Medical Center of the Americas, Luis Baeza, said that his hospital is certified to attend tourists from all over the world and has a safety program for foreign patients.
He said that the specialties with greatest demand by foreign patients are maxillofacial surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and invasive cardiology procedures.
Baeza concluded saying that, Medical Center of the Americas is licensed to perform: liver, heart, corneas and kidney transplants, and they have already many satisfied patients from Texas, Louisiana, Florida and other parts of the US.
