Twice a year the city of Merida pulls out all the stops and hosts a city-wide block party called Noche Blanca. Galleries, restaurants and other retail businesses stay open late, and offer special deals and treats to accommodate the constant flow of visitors.
This Saturday December 6, SoHo Galleries is offering tasty bites by Market 35, hand-made sangria, and music by local sensation Gina Osorno.
In addition, SoHo is using the opportunity to introduce two new artists, as well as new works by an already-established local artist.
Canadian artist Kreso Cavlovic spends part of each year in Merida, where he maintains a studio and workshop. He has created a number of new pieces specifically for SoHo and Noche Blanca.
Also featured are lhovay Abreu Garcia, a classically-trained painter from Cuba whose works use stunning imagery to grab the viewer’s attention, and Randa Kaye Cherry, whose glass sculptures made up of multiple layers are almost mesmerizing.
All three artists will be present during Noche Blanca to discuss their work.
Noche Blanca at SoHo Galleries will run from 8:00 pm until way past your bedtime, purportedly until 2:00 am or until the food and refreshments run out.
Gina Osorno will be singing from 8:30 until 10, and the visiting artists will be in attendance until midnight.
