Prince Charles visits Campeche, Camilla stays in Mexico City with sinus problems

The Duchess of Cornwall will miss the penultimate day of her tour of Mexico because she is suffering from sinus problems, Clarence House has said.

Camilla was due to fly with Charles to the coastal town of Campeche to carry out a series of engagements but will now remain in the capital Mexico City.

A Clarence House spokeswoman said: “The Duchess of Cornwall will not be joining the Prince of Wales in Campeche today as originally planned as Her Royal Highness is feeling unwell with a sinus problem.

“The Duchess is very sorry that she will be unable to go to Campeche today. Instead she is hoping to meet more of the British Embassy staff in Mexico City who have been working on the visit.

“Her Royal Highness hopes to carry on with the scheduled programme tomorrow.”

A doctor always travels with the Prince on official foreign tours and it is understood that Camilla was advised that flying would aggravate the problem.

Charles will now visit the stunning Edzna Maya archaeological site, near the town of Campeche on his own.

During the tour he will learn about the site’s restoration and meet some of the workers who have helped to successfully restore the ruins.

Charles will also visit a mangrove biosphere reserve and carry out an engagement that his wife was due to undertake visiting a Women’s Justice Centre.
