During the second meeting of the Maya Train project held in Campeche, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal proposed to the elected president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that Yucatán be the next meeting point to evaluate the progress of the project, and future head of the federal executive agreed with pleasure.

In this way, Yucatan will host the third follow-up meeting of the plan, scheduled for November 13, so it will bring together Lopez Obrador, the future officials of his cabinet related to the issue and the governors of Campeche, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González, Chiapas, Manuel Velasco Coello, Tabasco, Arturo Núñez Jiménez and Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa. This was informed by the state governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.

This would be the second visit of the president-elect to the state in a month, since on Friday, October 12, AMLO held a meeting in Merida where he recognized the Austerity Plan launched by the Yucatecan governor.

During the meeting held in Campeche on the 13th, and in the presence of the elected president of the country and the host Governor, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, the head of the Yucatecan Executive presented the progress registered by the state in the Maya Train issue, where he highlighted that there is a progress of 88% on railway rights and about 41% on existing roads.

The state governors and the President Elect ruled out that the construction of the train could cause a negative environmental impact, since the railways already exist since the 1950s, so no land will be expropriated, nor polluted or deforested. On the contrary, 50,000 hectares of fruit and timber trees will be planted along the train tracks, as part of the Sembrando Vida program, for reforestation.

After recalling the importance of this project, considered one of the 25 priority plans for the south-southeast of Mexico in which between 120 and 150 billion pesos will be invested, Vila Dosal stressed that this project will detonate the development of the whole region, since it will contribute to bring employment and combat inequality. Besides, he added that Yucatan plays an important role in this project, because 471 kilometers of roads will pass through the state’s territory.

“No doubt connectivity will improve in the area, which represents an opportunity not only to attract thousands of tourists to the region, but also for the mobilization of Yucatecans who work in the different destinations of Quintana Roo, who will be able to use a better, faster and more efficient means of transportation, at an accessible cost”. declared Mauricio Vila.

“And the economic spill will be very important for local, regional and national companies that will participate in the construction, which will generate considerable dynamics”, he added.

“We must remember that Yucatán was not initially included in the project, but after the steps taken by the state government in coordination with the president-elect, Yucatan became a key role player in the Maya Train route, which is a sign that AMLO is accessible and empathetic with the needs of our state”, Vila Dosal continued.

In his speech, the state governor also stressed that Yucatan is becoming a pole of scientific research, featuring high quality public and private education institutions, turning it into one of the most important states in Southeast Mexico.
