A 16-year-old girl was found dead in a vacant lot at the Nueva Kukulkan neighborhood, in southern Merida.

The Attorney General’s Office informed that the adolescent was identified by her mother before the corresponding authorities.

The discovery occurred on Friday Oct.  5, when a resident gave notice to the authorities as the body of the girl was found bagged and in state of decomposition.

To the place arrived agents of the Ministry of Public Security and experts of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), who, upon performing the necropsy, determined that the cause of death was asphyxia due to suffocation.

Given these facts, the FGE initiated an investigation and activated the protocol of ministerial, expert and police action in the crime of feminicide of the State of Yucatan.

The residents of the area said they were dismayed, especially by the recent feminicides that have occurred in the state, for which they demanded better surveillance from the authorities.

“This did not happen before, we heard that these things happened far from Yucatan, but today we are living it and I think we need more security, especially for women, single mothers, teenagers and young girls”, said Delia Córdoba, a Yucatecan woman and southern Merida resident.

However, local authorities confirmed the arrest of the alleged femicide of the young Berenice L., whose body was found in the aforementioned vacant lot in Colonia Nueva Kukulcán.

Alexis González , also in his teens, is the alleged murderer was the girl’s sentimental partner, he killed the young girl by way of strangulation. According to the report, apparently the man murder her for jealousy, because she already had another partner. Alexis and Berenice were the parents of a two year-old.
