Prior to the sixth edition of the National and International Piano Contest “José Jacinto Cuevas”, the Olimpo Cultural Center presents three concerts, in which six young Yucatecans -winners of past editions of that contest- will share their talent.

“We want the public to see that it is worth supporting this type of contests, showcasing the musical talent and potential that we have in Yucatan,” says Irina Decheva, who runs this contest.

“Young pianists from different countries participate in the contest, but in this particulr cycle of recitals, titled “Talented Yucatecos“, the objective is to show that there are local students that have managed to stand out in this discipline”, Decheva continued.

Three concerts will be part of the cycle, which will start on Wednesday 19, at 9:00 p.m., with pianists Alejandrina Villamil Marrufo and Daniela Jiménez Carabantes, winners of the third and fifth editions.

The young pianists are happy to share the stage, because although they have known each other for several years, they have never performed together.

Alejandrina won as the best Yucatecan participant in the 2012 edition, and assures that “participating in this contest was a great experience”.

For her, it was essential to participate in the contest, since it meant being put to the test before a jury that did not know her and therefore evaluated her work objectively. Being able to interact with other “incredibly talented pinaists” during the event, was also a great experience.

Currently Alejandrina, who is a graduate of ESAY, is studying a masters in pedagogy with a specialty in piano in the city of Detmold, Germany.

As for Daniela Jiménez, recognized in the fifth edition of the contest with the second place in the youth category and as the best performer of the obligatory piece that on that occasion was the work of Javier Álvarez, she says that it was the first time she participated in a contest with such an extensive program, with works representative of all times.

So, it was a very constructive experience to know the characteristics that should be covered in the interpretation of each work according to the time. The young musician is studying the first semester of the Bachelor of Music in ESAY, and aspires to continue studying abroad

The other two concerts will take place on November 11 and 18.
