Everything you need to know about photographic stories, starting with the conceptualization, budget, type of contracts and rates to sell a photographic project and to share this information with the photographer’s community of Yucatan, Mauricio Palos comes to Merida to offer his workshop “Production of photographic stories“, that will take place on August 25 and 26, at the space known as Toloc Mx.
This activity is organized in coordination with the Colectivo Viva La Foto and Colectivo Toloc, with the goal of allowing the students to identify opportunities, forms and standards required when working independently in the production of short stories (news) and long-term documentary projects; conceptualization, production, edition, distribution and publication.
The workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and it is not necessary to have a specific level of knowledge, both amateurs, students and photographers with years of experience are welcome. All who want to explore projects by Mexican and international authors and detect their strengths are admitted to create their own stories.

According to Mauricio Palos, member of the Boreal Collective and Director of the Tenexcalco Cultural Center, during the workshop, attendees will work with exercises assigned during the class.
Some of the specific objectives of this workshop are:
- Understand what is needed to develop as an independent photographer.
- Be aware of the need for a career plan.
- To have the necessary tools for the development of photographic stories.
- Reflect on the conditions that currently exist in the photographic market.
- Learn about the different types of contracts acceptable in the industry and approximate rates to sell their work.
During the two-day workshop, four topics will be addressed in the same number of sessions:
- A freelance photographer and his needs,
- Producing short stories independently,
- Long-term personal projects and
- Conceptualization and production of printed materials like magazines, books and web editions.
