Yucatecan art students can apply for scholarships

Merida, Yucatan, February 15, 2018. – Yucatecan students or students living in the state can obtain support for their artistic training in Mexico or abroad through one of the 18 scholarships of 50,000 pesos that will be awarded by the Stimulus Program to Creation and Artistic Development (Pecda) in its 2018 edition.

The Ministry of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta) invited the students to participate in the contest that will be receiving applications from February 15 until March 8 at 3:00 pm through the web page: www.pecdaenlinea.cultura.gob.mx .

The call is open to young people from the state or residents between 18 and 34 years old who have been accepted or are enrolled in schools, universities and institutes throughout the country or abroad in any of the following areas:

  • Visual Arts
  • Audiovisual Media
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Theater and Literature

In two different modalities: Spanish and Mayan Language.

The Pecda will promote the enrichment of the work of the students through the encounter and interaction with other artists of the same discipline, will deliver the stimuli in five bimonthly phases to cover the nine months of the scholarship.

Candidates must upload a letter to the online system expressing the academic and training reasons for which they request support; the work plan with schedule; along with the proof of acceptance corresponding to your registration for the period of study.

Likewise, they must attach two recommendation letters from teachers in the discipline of study; from one to three journalistic reviews or articles on their work; as well as catalogs of individual or collective work samples.

Applicants will also have to submit a proposal in only one of the areas mentioned above. In case of obtaining the financial support from other sources, they will commit to accredit it by means of documents of the corresponding instances.

The evaluation of the applications submitted will be in charge of a Technical Commission composed of recognized specialists of each discipline convened for this purpose, designated by the Planning Commission. This will have the power to request additional data or materials.

The results will be announced on April 15 of this year in the web portal of the Sedeculta www.culturayucatan.com where applicants can download the application form, and see more details.
