TIJUANA – Last November, the award ceremony of “The Globals Awards” was held in London, where a medical project of the city of Tijuana was recognized with one of the top awards, the prize in the “The Most Outstanding” category for Medical Tourism Service.

The recognition consolidates the city of Tijuana as one of the most important when talking about medical tourism in the world. The relevance of recent years in the subject have attracted great projects to the city such as the award-winning “NewCity Medical Plaza”.

Although it is still under construction, the “NewCity Medical Plaza”, with which Tijuana stood out from more than 100 nominees from around the world to obtain this distinction, has already generated great attention in the medical sector.

The arrival of this one-of-a-kind project will come to consolidate the medical infrastructure driven by tourism that comes to our city to seek the best medical services in several branches of health.

Currently, the State of Baja California receives a large economic inflow from those who come for treatment, as in 2016 there is a record of more than $600 million USD.

“Of 100% of the tourism that visits us, 31% is of a medical nature,” according to data from the state’s economy department.

NewCity Medical Plaza is located next to the apartment complex of the same company in the Rio de Tijuana area, which will be ready until the first quarter of 2019, according to the developers.

It will count on the highest service in the different medical areas, hotel area, congress spaces and even food area where the most representative of the State gastronomy will be available. It is expected that when it starts operations it will be serving around 800 thousand patients per year.
