MERIDA — The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Yucatan already has the necessary conditions for the attraction of investments and simplification of procedures through a government internet portal named “unique window.” This is a reason why it is expected that before the end of this year, the federal government will be make the declaration for SEZ activation, state and federal officials said.
After holding a working meeting with Governor Rolando Zapata Bello, the head of the Secretariat for Research, Innovation and Higher Education (Siies), Raúl Godoy Montañez, and the Executive Secretary of the Federal Authority for the Development of SEZ, Enrique Huesca Fernández, detailed the progress made so far for the establishment of this area, specialized in the information and communication technologies (ICT) sector.
At a press conference, Godoy Montañez informed that the project is in progress and so far nine companies have demonstrated their interest in joining the process, which will detonate the growth of the state.
Among these firms is Compax, dedicated to the manufacture of computer equipment and tools, which provides for an investment of several million dollars by prestigious companies, as well as the generation of more than one thousand direct and indirect jobs well remunerated in the region.
Huesca Fernández pointed out that the SEZ, which will be located in Progreso, is a reality that provides for the entry of local, national and international companies that have set their sights on the demarcation since it was announced as part of the list of this project.
