CANCÚN — During the opening of 30th edition of Cancún Travel Mart 2017, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, secretary of federal tourism, emphasized that so far this year, Mexico has received 26 million foreign visitors, 12% more than in 2016, highlighting a growth of visitors from the United States and Canada, as well as those from Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.

De la Madrid Cordero said that until August this year, the economic output of tourism was 14.7 billion pesos, a figure 9.75% higher than that of 2016; he also said that the tourism industry represents 8.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), making it an effective way to improve the living conditions of Mexicans.

Regarding travel alerts, he said that we have to work in two ways: in reality to make the country a safer place and in the perception, to publicize that progress.

We did our first ceynote swim at Chaak Tun and were very upset that no mention of NO sunscreen, lotions, deodorant, etc. should be on anyone’s body before going into the ceynote. This is CRITICAL to get the message to ALL tour agents to let people know so these places are not destroyed by human filth! Showers at each facility should be required! Also, in general tourists need to be told about coral safe sunscreen when booking any trip to precious coral reefs! Thank you.
