MERIDA — Harold Sanders Palacios, Tourism Coordinator of the Yucatan Tourism Development Secretary, said that in general Yucatan is going through an important moment for tourism, but in the immediate future he points out that the best segment of opportunity is that of meetings and conventions.
“The first congresses of this season are arriving already. The people who attend a congress not only come to the meetings and then leave; they stay more days because of the great attractions that the state of Yucatan has,” he said.
The official stressed that Merida’s only convention venue, which is The Conventions Center Siglo XXI, is no longer available due to the demand that exits.

In that sense, he mentioned that for Yucatan it was important to have one more place that would provide the space for congresses, as will be the case with the International Congress Center.
He added that the strong dates for congresses and conventions are in the second half of the year, mainly in October and November, where now in Yucatan hotels and the convention center dates are fully booked.
