Yucatan security forces display power in annual Independence parade

MERIDA — The military and security forces of Yucatan demonstrated this Saturday September 16th their personnel and armament during the Military Civic Parade commemorating the 207th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico that concluded with a concert of Mexican composers in charge of the Music Band of the 10th Military Region.

In the parade presided by the governor, Rolando Zapata Bello, from the central balcony of the Government Palace, the presence of the Female Squadron of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) was highlighted by the commander, Maria Elena Mendoza Soberanis, who paraded with heavy caliber and was presented as a proof of the necessary evolution of public safety in the state.

Two Texan-A9 aircraft at Military Base No. 8 flew over the Plaza Grande several times while on land the 10th Military Region deployed a contingent of Special Forces involved in high-impact operations against drug trafficking, organized crime, anti-terrorism and that deplay in all types of terrain and under any meteorological condition.

During the one-hour 40-minute civic parade, the MĂ©rida Municipal Police presented a Citizen Security grouping with elements equipped with 12-gauge Mossberg and 9-mm UZI weapons that were evaluated under the new federal public safety standards; and also a contingent of ecological vehicles.

The Federal Police participated with elements of the Regional Security Division, as well as the Federal Forces Division and the Investigation Division.
