More than 60% of this segment has not had access to education and training for employment….

MERIDA — The National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (Inegi) indicated that Yucatan is the second national place in counting inhabitants with some type of disability; however, within this segment, only three out of 100 manage to integrate into the labor market, said Alejandro Ojeda Manzano, director general of the Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education in Yucatan (CREE).

From this segment of the population, those who are in a productive age encourage a culture of inclusion in the State.

The CREE has a continuous service of job placement, that is, it functions as an agency, offering spaces in various companies of the locality.

For Ojeda Manzano, one of the main problems faced by people with disabilities is not having the necessary tools for their daily performance, even to communicate in some cases. In cases of hearing impairment, when the person does not have profound deafness, hearing aids can make a difference in continuous training.

“Another limitation of this social sector is that less than 40% have had access to an education and training service for employment,” he said.
