MERIDA — Developers of a new hotel in Merida are promoting it as a place where local, national and foreign visitors can enjoy spaces and services that meet the highest standards of quality with full respect for the environment.

The Hotel Wayam by Xixim will soon become the first lodging center in Merida to count with the Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Design (LEED) certification.

As part of the growing tourist investment that flourishes in Yucatan, Governor Rolando Zapata Bello made a visit to verify the construction of this new establishment located on the emblematic Colón Avenue of Merida, which expects to open in March 2018.

This hotel will add to the offer of the hotel zone of Merida, where the new Yucatan International Congress Center, Powered by Samsung, is also located. In its construction, complex processes are carried out to respect the existing trees, creating a balanced environment in which one of the main objectives is that the customers enjoy nature with all the comforts.

Accompanied by Secretary of Tourism Promotion, Saúl Ancona Salazar, and businessmen of the sector, the governor said that this type of project strengthens Mérida as a prime tourist destination for congresses and conventions, while contributing to the increase of inflow and expansion of stays.

The Wayam project’s director, Jorge Preciat Cervera, explained that he will keep the original Art Deco house as a vestibule, as well as respect the 25 trees that exist on a surface of more than 4 thousand square meters, which includes 29 luxurious rooms and 11 modern apartments, depending on the requirements of the users, he said.

The hotel proposal, which weighs luxury with a sustainable approach, is designed for the current generation of people who travel for work and pleasure, and will have a construction of more than six thousand square meters in five floors.

On the third floor will be a panoramic swimming pool from which guests can appreciate nature, along with a restaurant, two elevators, a hall for events with possibility of division and terrace, among other features.

It is worth mentioning that as part of the LEED certification, in the Green category, and to provide greater comfort and privacy to customers, there will be walls with an acoustic and thermal insulation layer of 15 centimeters thick, which will be useful for being on a heavy-traffic route.
