PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo – During the second half of 2017, the Quintana Roo office of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) will conduct an inspection in the new tourist development DreamWorks in the Riviera Maya to ensure the possible discoveries of archaeological remains.

Adriana Velázquez Morlet, director of this institution, urged developers that operate in the municipality of Solidaridad not to omit the participation of this institute, as it’s important to conduct research aimed to rescue Mayan constructions in the property where the park is projected.

“We are doing an intense work; at the moment we are participating in all new developments such as Mayakoba City, and we will inspect the development project at DreamWorks in Punta Maroma and some other subdivisions within the area of Playa del Carmen”, said the archaeologist.

As previously Sipse.com reported, DreamWorks Animation Studios will operate two theme parks in the Riviera Maya: Dream Park and Thrill Park. They will be developed in two different properties with a space of almost 120 hectares or 1.2 million square meters (m2) at kilometer 307, Federal Highway 307 Reforma Agraria-Puerto Juárez, municipality of Solidaridad.

Three hotels plan to open their doors inside the amusement parks.

The whole area will be visited by a team of archaeologists and specialized workers for the tracing of pre-Hispanic sites, and if traces are detected they will be integrated into the updated database of archaeological sites in the state of Quintana Roo. After that, if the project called “Plan Amikoo” is approved, at least three hotels with 1,140 rooms, a shopping center, museum and even an anthropology school will be built with an investment of $3.1 billion pesos ($174 million USD).

In addition, Velázquez Morlet reported that the State’s INAH Center is currently operating fieldwork in at least five points within the municipality of Solidaridad, with the objective of determining the conservation of pre-Hispanic buildings.

He also announced that in the database of archaeological areas of Quintana Roo, so far a little over a thousand points have been recorded throughout the state, although it is projected that this figure increases during the next months of this year .
