The National System of Public Security reports that during the first five months of 2017 in Yucatan, common-law offenses increased 21 percent. In 2016 during this time period, there were 2,488 crimes, while in 2017 there were 3,158; this is a significant increase of 672 crimes. However, the state is still below the national average, since that is 22,000 cases.
Common-law offenses correspond to those where the victim is directly affected. For instance: threats; property damages; sexual offenses; fraud; homicide; injuries, and robbery. These felonies are prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at common-law, investigated by the procuratorate of justice and tried by the State’s Judicial Council.

Although robbery is the most recurrent crime in the state, it is the least reported; it has only 157 registered cases, from which 10 were violent and five non-violent to victims. Regarding house robbery, 111 non-violent accusations were made. Having said this, threatening has become the crime with the largest number of complaints, with 754 just in the course of 5 months.
Until May, property offenses numbered 446 complaints in total, including trust abuse; poperty damage; extortion; fraud; and dispossession,
Police registered five homicide cases of which three were of gross negligence, and two cataloged as culpable homicide.
