WITH 62 HOMICIDES SO FAR THIS YEAR, CANCUN EXCEEDS THE TOTAL FOR ALL OF 2016.

CANCÚN — After the Attorney General’s Office confirmed the death of a man in the IMSS of Region 510 in Cancún, the number executed in 2017 rose to 62, surpassing the total number of executions in the whole of last year . The now deceased had been shot last May 27 in Sm. 58 and this June 10 lost his life because of the seriousness of the injuries.

Noticarbe.com reports violence seems to have no end in Cancun. The dispute over the drug sales between the different cartels of the country as well as a lack of efficiency on the part of the municipal authorities (besides state and federal) has left that the 2017 becomes the most violent of the last 5 years.

The 62 killed, in 161 days of this year, leave an average of one executed every 2  and a half days. Practically 3 per week. Situation contrasting with 2014, where only 21 executions were recorded throughout the year for an average of one shot every 17 days. In 2015, the average was one every 10 days, and last year one every 6 days.

So far, seven executions have been recorded in the month of June.

Another alarming issue is the authorities’ nil reaction. Of all the events in which an execution was related, only the arrest of two suspects who were transferred to the Cancun prison was obtained. Only two detained after 62 executed.

It should be noted that this year has been marked by the attack on the facilities of the Office of the Attorney General of Justice on 17 January. In addition, at least 5 attacks have been reported on bars in the city where they have ended with the death of one or more people.

So the panorama is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world in 2017, reflecting a year that has already become the most violent of the last five years with 62 executions and, although it hurts to say, those that are missing …
