MERIDA — The rise in tourism to Yucatan and expectations of its continued growing as a destination were the reasons why Aeroméxico made the decision to create a new Mérida-Atlanta flight, as a result of a collaboration agreement with Delta Airlines, one of the most important companies in the United States.

This announcement comes days after a meeting held by Yucatan Governor Rolando Zapata Bello with the Board president of Aeromexico, Javier Arrigunaga Gomez del Campo, at the commercial presentation of the International Congresses Center, Powered by Samsung, carried out in Mexico City. At that meeting they addressed issues related to connectivity and the expansion plans.

In this way, Yucatan will be connected to one of the most important airports in the world, which registers every year a transit of more than 101 million passengers and the operation of one million flights. In addition, it is considered as the air terminal with the highest traffic of domestic flights, that is, to the interior of the United States.

Aeroméxico, with more than 30 years of presence in Mérida, has a capacity of 713,116 seats in round trips to and from Merida, according to the Official Airline Guide. It is the most important Airline that operates in the International Airport of Merida, “Manuel Crescencio Rejón”.

The new route would start from December 1 of this year, once the permits are approved by the corresponding authorities. It would be Flight 2717 departing from Atlanta at 12:15 p.m. and arrival in Merida at 2:15 p.m. The return to the US city would be at 3:10 p.m. and arrival at 6:50 p.m., according to information provided by the Secretariat of Tourism Promotion (Sefotur), a unit that follows the negotiations.

The plane that will be used for this route will be an Embraer 90 equipment, with capacity for 99 passengers and the starting frequency would be daily. Atlanta offers a wide range of connections not only to the United States, but also to the rest of the world, and is Delta Airlines’ main user distribution hub, which carries more than 180 million people a year.

This is how Yucatan and Merida benefit from this alliance between Aeromexico and Delta, so the governor and the president of the Aeromexico Board of Directors agreed to redouble efforts to boost existing routes and the new Merida-Atlanta flight, which joins the international schedule.
