MERIDA – The most recent statistics indicate that dengue, chikungunya and zika cases maintain a downward trend thanks to cleanup operations, reported the Yucatan Health Services.

According to officials from the State Health Department in the epidemiological week number 17, there were 25 cases of dengue fever. This number reflects a 60.2% decrease compared with the same period in 2016, when there were 63 dengue cases. As for chikungunya, no case has been recorded so far this year. “We have a decrease of 100% because last year eight cases were reported,” the health department statement said.
Regarding zika there are 11 cases recorded to date. Of these, 6 are women who are pregnant and are being followed up.
The agency carried out in June the massive cleaning operation intended to reduce mosquitos in Mérida, and police stations provided reinforcement measures against these diseases.
It should be recalled that in recent days the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur reported that its laboratories contain 100 million doses of a dengue vaccine on production to combat the four serotypes of this disease.
This production is for private consumption, so on that occasion it was requested that the vaccine be considered in vaccination cards in Mexico.
The same request was made by about 80 representatives from 13 countries in Latin America, in addition to the United States and Mexico that met in Merida several months ago.
