The 29-year-old woman had been living in Playa del Carmen for a year, along with her boyfriend, Francisco Cavalli.

According to Carmen Benítez, Cintia Vanesa’s cousin, one day before the crime, the couple hosted a young Mexican person, whom they have never met before.

Speaking to CN5, as reported by Argentine newspapers, Benítez said: “He was going to stay two days (the Mexican). This person needed lodging in Playa del Carmen.”

The victim’s cousin reported that Cintia Vanesa did not answer Francisco’s Whatsapp’s messages, so he went to his house, forced the door and found the body inside a cardboard box.

“They had allegedly strangled her. She also had blows to the head,” said Benítez.

According to the ministerial authorities, the body of the woman was found on Tuesday April 25 in a basement of the colony Colosio, in Playa del Carmen.

Later, Francisco, her boyfriend, was arrested by the authorities, but Thursday he was released, according to relatives and close friends.

According to Argentine newspaper La Nación, the mother of the deceased girl ruled out that the crime was committed by Francisco.

Francisco and Cintia Vanesa met in Peru, and for a year they lived in Playa del Carmen, where the young woman worked as a cheerleader in a hotel and looked after children.
