The relatives did not deliver the ransom of eight million pesos ($424,000 USD) that the kidnappers demanded.

CANCUN — The rescue of the 54-year-old businessman kidnapped on Monday morning, May 15 in Region 233 and released Tuesday afternoon, May 16 in a shack on banks of the Chacmuchuc Lagoon, led the Specialized Unit Against Kidnapping to bust a band of alleged kidnappers operating in the city for several weeks.

According to information from the Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the alleged perpetrators from 21 to 27 years old are all from Campeche, but the authorities didn’t reveal their names.

The Prosecutor’s Office also began an investigation to determine if they are related to more kidnap cases. They were to appear in court on Thursday.

The arrests of the alleged kidnappers was carried out according to a research and intelligence work of the anti-kidnapping group, which managed to ensure that the relatives did not deliver the ransom, which was eight million pesos ($424,000 USD).

The ministerial authorities reported that after the kidnappers grabbed the businessman from his home, located in Region 233, investigators checked the closed-circuit cameras of a neighbor.

The ministerial elements carried out an operation in Isla Blanca and managed to locate one of the alleged kidnappers, who matched the characteristics of those who arrived at the victim’s home.

Continuing with the operation, they managed to locate the victim, who was in a shack, next to the Chacmuchuc Lagoon, managed to rescue and then provide him with the first medical services, and later a Red Cross ambulance drove him to the General Hospital.

In the deployment, the ministerial agents arrested four accused hijackers, secured cell phones, a van and a boat.

In another case, the ministerial authorities are investigating an alleged deprivation of liberty of a subject who apparently managed to escape his captors in a safe house, located in Region 207, block 8, on the Niños Héroes Avenue.
