Governor Rolando Zapata Bello, accompanied by the president of the Council of the hospital, Juan José Ramírez Zapata, supervised this work that records a 45 percent of total progress and that will strengthen medical tourism in the state, as it will have the certification of the International Joint Commission that will allow foreigners without insurance to make use of their older medical expenses.

During the tour of this nine-storey infrastructure, which will offer children’s and women’s health care, as well as human conception and more than 25 specialties, the Secretary of Tourism Promotion (Secretario de Fomento Turístico, Sefotur, in Spanish), Saúl Ancona Salazar, said that with the opening of new national and international air routes, more overnight visitors will arrive. In addition to enjoying their stay, they will find in Yucatán a high quality clinical option.

“The hospital represents a great opportunity, especially now that it has finally managed to reconnect the Maya and Oaxaca routes, from Mexico, Oaxaca, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Villahermosa, Merida and Cancún. And Merida by the Mayair line, we also have flights to Veracruz by Viva Aerobus, which shows us that we are fully connected at a regional level from the south-southeast of the country, making Mérida an important capital in hospital and medical subjects, he mentioned.

Accompanied by the heads of the Secretariats of Health (Secretaría de Salud de Yucatán, SSY, in Spanish), Jorge Eduardo Mendoza Mézquita, and Economic Development (Secretaria de Fomento Económico, Sefoe, in Spanish), Ernesto Herrera Novelo, Ancona Salazar added that in international matters, the entity also has an important connection through the airlines United Airlines with routes to Houston; Aeromexico and Westjet, with destinations to Toronto and American Airlines that begins in June to link with Miami.

Ramírez Zapata explained to the president that the new space, located in the Santa Gertrudis Copó colony of this capital and projected to inaugurate operations in April 2018, is considered as a third level, meaning that it will be the largest and most important in the region, in addition to complying with all hygiene, safety and space standards required by the International Joint Commission.

This modern hospital, which began its construction in April 2016 with an investment of 600 million pesos, will occupy an area of 15 thousand square meters and 28 thousand square meters of construction. It will include specialized areas like urology, sports physiotherapy, neurophysiology, cardiology, hemodynamics and hemodialysis, he remarked.

He added that on the ground floor there will be emergency services, clinical laboratory, blood bank, reception and restaurant, while on the first floor, the surgery area with five operating rooms and in the second, gardens, management, neurophysiology, Physiotherapy and hemodynamics.
