Judge imposes a year of preventive custody.

MERIDA – The case of Emma Gabriela Molina Canto, who was murdered on March 27, is proceeding with the order from Judge Edwin Mugarte Guerrero of Yucatan to transfer her ex-husband, Martín Medina Sonda, a former Tabasco official, from a prison in Tabasco to another one in Merida to judge him for being the intellectual author of the femicide perpetrated in the victim’s private home.

Through a videoconference, the accused testified before the judge Mugarte Guerrero and denied having made a call to one of the hit-men from inside the Tabasco jail, where he has been imprisoned since last October 14, 2014, for the crime of fraud and whose sentence is 12 years in prison.

He argued that there is no record of calls made from inside the prison, in addition to the fact that during the operations carried out by authorities to search for prohibited objects inside the Jail, no cell phone was found.

He denied making any payment to César Rogelio, one of the alleged hit-men, as his inmate status prevents him from performing any transaction in the Mexican banking system.

In the same way, he denied having any reason to kill his former spouse, because they were divorced since 2008 and by 2012 they had cut off any relationship, reason why the prosecution’s argument of trying to force Emma Gabriela to return to his side, is totally false.

After hearing the allegations of both parties, Judge Mugarte decided to link Medina Sonda with prosecution and impose a year of preventive jail. He also has given until August to the State Attorney General Office to carry out its complementary investigation.

During the audience new details about the crime were revealed, such as the participation of a fifth subject form Veracruz who wasn’t caught.

Prosecutors also reported that Jonathan and Oscar Miguel, the accused murderers, misexecuted their orders, because according to the accused, the aim was to scare Emma Gabriela without hurting her, neither her children.
