CANCUN — ‘And where is Messi?’ asked one of the kids attending Barcelona FC’s Soccer Camp at La Salle University in Cancun.

That kid, with that innocence that distinguishes the ‘kings of the home’, imagined that ‘La Pulga’, the best player in the world today, would be present at the opening ceremony of the Camp. He, like the numerous group that led the celebration, looked forward to playing, regardless of the incessant heat that equally shone with all its splendor in such an emotional act.

“This is the first time we are in Cancun, to make the Soccer Camp. It will last two weeks, and will be led by Manu Carrero and two other coaches (Gonzalo Rubio and Leonel Delgado), accompanied by four technical assistants, from here, from the city.

“We will do it in the mornings, from 9 am to 1 pm, during Easter vacations, open for boys and girls, from five to 18 years of age,” said Josep Novellas, Director of Operations of ‘Catalunya Sports’ Company that manages FCB School Mexico.

He explained that the objective of Soccer Camp, without a doubt, “is to bring Barcelona FC to the boys of Cancun, who know their way of working and what characterizes us as a club.”

According to Novedades de Quintana Roo, Novellas said, -“Obviously, we want to have fun, playing sports. We acquire habits, very useful for life, such as teamwork, effort and humility. We are very focused on that they learn these values “.

Alfonso de la Peña Flores, regional coordinator of ‘Catalunya Sports’, Adriana Zaragoza, from the Funding Department at La Salle Cancún University, Novellas himself and the coaches referred to above, welcomed the children, who according to their category, integrated teams with the names of the Catalan stars, like Pique, Iniesta, Neymar and Messi.

He said that “we do not want it to be a two-week camp, nothing more, that we come, train and leave.”

“The idea is to make a mark, I insist, to leave a part of Barcelona, here, in Cancun, so that when we return, next year, we continue to work in the same way.

“We chose The University La Salle because the facilities are spectacular, the field is in fantastic condition, natural grass, very beautiful, plus it has all the facilities, such as training classrooms that we used for the preparation of the assistants, a video room to show a little tactics to the guys. It is complete,” he acknowledged.
