A statement to Mexico and its people from a group of foreign residents in Merida:

We feel the need to voice our solidarity and intent to help our adopted country any way we can.

We recognize the important role Mexico and its people play in the economy and social fabric of the United States.

We have chosen to make our home here in Mexico and despite the current US politics, we stand with our Mexican neighbors.

We have always felt welcomed by Mexican hospitality and embraced by the people.

We are embarrassed by the treatment of Mexico and its people by our current government.

We believe in open arms, not closed walls.

If more walls are built, we have shovels.

Signed: Sus Vecinos y Amigos

I say this with heart felt understanding. The president does not speak for all u.s. citizens. Unfortunately we have a president that was not voted in by popular vote.I’m so sorry that anyone has to go through such a discriminating and unjust situation that the president has invoked on mexico and our mexican brothers and sisters that all bleed the same colors we all do. We should not be separated by language, color or borders. We are all human and should be treated equally. No man should have the power to determine anyones future. He is not a God. Please be reassured that we are many and stand together as all races, nationalities, religions and will not be judged by one man who believes he can control our fate. We will survive and conquer as one.
