CANCUN — Projects in excess of $800 million are in motion for the first few kilometers of the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Francisco López Reyes, director of Turismo de Benito Juárez, says there are several Cancun hotel projects in the works that will create nearly 6,000 local jobs with investments of around $800 million USD.
Of the new projects, one will include a new shopping center along Kukulcán Boulevard while others will be hotel related.
“We will see new projects develop within the first five kilometers of the hotel zones such as a new shopping mall and marina. Also, the remodeling of Temptation Hotel that will open in August 2017, as well as Sunwing from Canada. Owners of the Royalton chain are also building a new hotel,” explained the director.
Other investments will include the construction of Universo Maya theme park in front of the Maya Museum in Cancun and a new business center in Cancun’s centro area.
The announcement came after the country’s participation in the recent World Travel Market that took place in London, UK earlier in November. López Reyes says that the participation of Cancun in the London fair is one of the most important, allowing concrete decisions for 2017 as well as promoting Cancun as a destination.
They are anticipating more than 150,000 UK visitors during the upcoming tourist season, placing the United Kingdom as one of the top markets for Cancun.
