President’s quick stop in Merida includes Science Park opening and TV giveaways

In a four-hour visit to Yucatan Thursday Dec. 3, President Enrique Peña Nieto opened the first stage of Merida’s Science and Technology Park and gave away new digital televisions to residents of six municipalities.

Peña Nieto announced that next year his administration will mark a milestone in science and research, which will be promoted with $91,600 million pesos (USD$5.4 billion).

The President said the Yucatan Science Park becomes an ideal site for the establishment of companies and public and private institutions.

The President toured the new facilities of the Heuristic Development and Technological Innovation Center; the Safety Laboratory of the Research Center for Assistance in Technology and Design, and the pilot plant of technology transfer for agribusiness.

After this event, the Chief Executive went to Merida’s Inalámbrica Sports Complex, where he handed out televisions, including the number 8.2 million of the total 9.7 million that will be distributed in Mexico for the digital switchover.
